Information
This information page will evolve over time as I add more and more to it. I aim to have information on grief and its stages, models of grief such as that of Dr. Lois Tonkin, the Dual Process Model and the Continuing Bonds theory. There will also be practical information about palliative care, euthanasia and what to expect, aftercare of your pet and the options available and as and when the time is right, getting a new pet if that feels the right way forward for you.
For the moment, I would recommend watching the above You Tube video. Although it is not addressed specifically to pet loss, it is about grief and how we don't move on from it but learn to move forward with it. This is much the basis of Lois Tonkin's model where our grief doesn't grow smaller but our life starts to grow around it and become larger as time passes and we start to gain acceptance of our loss. This is shown in the image below from www.the ralphsite.com

I've found www.mind-springs.org to be a great source of information regarding the mind with meditation and theraputic breathing the most helpful while experiencing grief. There are a number of resources both free and paid on the site. I found the free course on Cutting through anxiety, quickly very helpful and use its breathing technique every day.
